Before I tell you how to make your own shimmering pictures, I would like to share with you a few comments that I have received on the Alighapou picture.
A few people sent me emails pointing out that in front of the Alighapou Palace there is no river or lake or pool at present and that the shimmering picture that I have put up is incorrect. My inspiration for the Java Applet was the picture that you see below:

I merely took this picture and brought it to life with the marvell of Java. Alighapou Palace is situated at one side of a rectangular square. At the time of the Safavids during the 17th century it was actualy overlooking a polo ground. The king used to sit and watch polo matches from the top. Later during the early 20th century there was in fact a pool in front of the building. That is what I beleive we can see above. I had an email from a viewer saying that my dipiction was incorrect and that there is a car park where the pool used to be. Well I replied saying "what a pity my friend, what a pity".
Now to making shimmering pictures. Here are a couple others I have made, the Sydney Opera House, a landmark of the City in which I live in. Here is another of Melbourne at night. I first came across the applet at " Land of Broken Dreams ", it was really breathtaking. The inspiration came to me to do the Alighapou picture. I have since found out that the applet was written by David Griffiths who deserves full credit for such a marvellous script.
