Iran Photo Album presents you with photos of objects and places dating back to 4000 BC at which time a people called the Elamites with their capital city at Susa were prominent in Iran. The Persians appear on the scene at around 650 BC. So great was their impact on world history that even to this day Iran is often referred to as Persia. The name given to the empire which Cyrus the Great founded in 560 BC. The name "Persia" originates from "Pars" which is actually a province of Iran where the original Persians were settled, it is called "Fars" by the Iranians. The Official Language of the country is now Persian ( called Farsi by the Iranians ). Other derivatives of Persian and many dialects are now spoken in Iran and some neighbouring countries.
