This feature is dedicated to the Persian Army at Issus. The battle at Issus took place at 333 BC and was the beginning of a series of battles between Alexander the Great and Darius III. Darius's unexpected defeat and the downfall of the Achaemenids, the most powerful Empire of its time, has been the subject of much discussion by historians and it is not my intention to cover it here. Iran Photo Album is primarily a visual site and as such I would like to show you some pictures which are basically reconstruction from historical monuments. These will give you an idea of what the Persian Army looked liked in 333 BC.

The battles might have shattered the Achaemenid Empire, however Iran still stands to this day as united,   resourceful, and culturally unique despite the disappearance of some of its ancient rivals. As an Iranian I can proudly say that we have stood the test of time. So here you are, the Persian Army at Issus, soldiers who gave their lives 2330 years ago in defense of their Motherland.
